It looks as like the there is an error in the 2. Does anyone see something odd about the 2? You can zoom into the pic if you need to.

I checked out coppercoins site and it appears to be the same as 1972P-1DO-009.

Thingee, I can't tell from the pics. I have just recently gone thru just shy of 6000 1972 Lincolns and I am dieing to tell the tale and post pics and I will when I get new drivers that work with Vista and my scanner. Suffice it to say that I found a few DDOs.

I learned the following about the "2" in 1972. The 009 DDO die shows a mirror image immediately above the horizontal bottom bar of the 2. It always seemed to start about 1/3 of the way from the right point which flairs upward and continues out to the point.

It almost seems as though there was erosion on the master die in the exact same location, too, though. On almost every coin I looked at there were small marks along the top of the horizontal bar on the two and reminded me of die erosion except for the way it looked. Instead of shadowing the length of the bar, these looked like solar flares for lack of a better way to put it. There would be erosion lines running perpendicular to the horizontal bar. Generally there would be two or three of them, and depending on die state they became progressively more obvious. When I first started looking at the coins, I wanted to confuse this with the real DDO - 009. Only after I found one did I realize the differences.

Sorry if this is not clear, if you can get better pics it will help.

That's pretty cool!
Referencing at coppercoins.com, a photo of a 72 looks very similar. Is there any thickening of LIBERTY?
I do think this is a DDO because of the thickening of the horizontals of the 2 and 7. Nice find if a DDO! I thought it looks like this DDO too:

1972P-1DO-002 | CLASS 1 | CONECA: 2-O-I | Crawford: CDDO-002
Wexler: unknown | FS#: 1c-033.52
Nice rotated hub doubling seen on the motto, LIBERTY and the date.

This is one of the minor DDOs for 1972, you can also see some evidence of it on the 7...I dont have my books right now so I cant tell you which it is.

Thanks,
Bill

I did see 2 such types and this one, if it is one, is not the major type. I too am having trouble with the vista window program and my camera settings. What a pain. I will see what I can do about getting better pics.
Jim, this cent also has an errosion problem around that same area also, so we may never found out what this type truly is. I hope you have better luck than me with this Vista program. Another alternative that was given to me by a computer tech is to install a compatable windows program with that of my camera and have both earlier win version AND the vista or stick with one or the other.
I do hope to see your pics eventually.
I'll examine the coin more closely later. Just got home from a Christmas party, it's late and I'm exhausted.

Merry Christmas to all- Happy Hanuka...etc.

I see nothing more than a normal 1972 cent.
