I live in D land not a chance for me to find an error, (exaggeration) And I was thinking about buying a roll of 2015 P homestead quarters in hope of finding a doubled die. Would it be best to just not spend the 7 bucks above face?

You can get one on ebay for like 30. Bucks it's rather sad. I wonder how long it will take to get a rarity value . And some more info on how many there are

I too was going to say I wouldn't mind living close to Disneyland... lol but for me I wouldn't spend the premium I just would wait until I get them in circulation be it a week to years down the road. But it will be different for everyone so completely up to you!

I'd estimate that there is about 1,500 floating around.

The dies last for approx 250,000 strikes for these quarters. That's how many there probably is. The Mint does not look for things like this. With all that said, who knows ...

I guess I could wait. Even though there are a ton of tourists I hardly will ever see a P.

Look at the ebay listings and look at the sold listings. When they first were recognized, the price skyrocketed. Now that there is a potential for hundreds of thousands of these, the bottom deems to be dropping out.

For the extra 7 dollars, go for it, but it is like buying a scratch lottery ticket for $7 with the potential to $10.

The Mint does not look for things like this.

Appendix A of the 2015 Red Book says: "Early in 2002 the mints changed their production methods to a new system designed to eliminate deformed planchets, off-center strikes, and similar errors. ... Under the new system, coins are packaged in large quantities and go directly to automated counters that filter out deformed coins. The result has been that very few error coins have entered the market since late 2002, and almost none after that date". I'm not sure how much this new system cost to develope, but It seems like the mint hasn't gotten their monies-worth. Does anyone else have thoughts regarding the mint's new automated system? Thanks.

my76strat,

The numbers of Off Center (for example) cents that I used to get in years prior to 2002 numbered in the thousands; hundreds for nickels, etc. They were so common that I could get them as cheap as 20c-50c each in bulk (for the cents) and pull the cream of the crop and sell the no-date, partial date and minors off to flea market operators and other dealers in bulk. I have not seen anything even coming close since 2002. I still have a small batch of the cream of the crop cents and nickels and will look to see what their dates are next time I dig that far back). That's just me but I think the Mint has been very successful in this regard.
