Beautiful design of the coin and a set that can be completed without mortgage on the house. I don't know any other gold American coin sets that can be completed without enormous investment of time and money. There is always at least one or two ringers in other sets that make it almost impossible to complete a set. I think it might be possible with Liberty Head gold coins, but would still be vastly expensive. I suspect that Liberty Head $20 gold pieces are not that highly collected which seems to explain why some very rare coins of this set are not much more expensive than other common ones. This is really weird to me.

I think the white and gold colors match up nicely. Definitely will look nice when you get it completed!

Thanks all .... I like the gold in White look too. Glad I didn't order the black holder for this set. As I said .. I plan on taking my time on this set. If I get two or three more this year .. I will be happy.

Justinwd Getting a $2.50 gold Indian is a good coin, for your first one. ------------------------ I do remember Johnny54321 having some nice gold coins. But I think he might have had a 1856 Flying Eagle cent. I can only hope to have a collection as nice as his was. ---------------------- I really need to get some better pictures of this set. I feel it will be one of the top series in my collection. My favorites Type sets (Dansco and IS) Morgan dollarsThis gold Indian set Commemoratives

GR...I am currently working on this set as well. I am trying to purchase them in problem free NGC holders in AU or better. One reason why I am going with NGC is the white holder and how well that gold coin looks next to it.
Yours are presented very nicely in the capital holder....nice!

Very nice set. I mainly collect $2 1/2 Indians, and have a bunch I need to post. I have a 1929 I got graded that has amazing toning. I had one of the holders a long time ago, but ended up selling it, as most of my indians are graded.

Man gold next to one another sure looks awesome. That is going to be a awesome holder once completed. Might have to pick this up and slowly chip away at it as well. Good luck, looks great.

Any advice for buying raw vintage gold coins like this? I'm always wary of spending > $100-$200 on a raw coin, and I thought I read a blog where the pros recommended slabbed gold coins to ensure they have original skin. I'm sure this comes down to "knowing what you are doing".
I can't necessarily tell, but are you just aiming for the individual dates or do you have a (minimum) grade in mind too?
Nice set for sure. Pretty epic actually. I think you've made everyone jealous posting this set-in-progress.
While I haven't seen it to compare, I would think gold on black plastic would look pretty sharp too...but sounds like I may have minority opinion on that.

You won't be getting decent coins like these for $100-$200. $250 is really close to base for a decent raw one. MS graded would be closer to $300 base.

Yep, sorry, let me clarify - I meant I am wary about buying coins raw (i.e., unslabbed) when prices are over that range (or thereabouts). I don't mean that I expect I can buy quarter eagles for that price, just that I wouldn't want to plunk down however much for a quarter eagle and risk that I'm buying a cleaned coin. Is there no issue in buying these quarter eagles raw? What should I look for? I guess I should have just phrased it like that.
