I posted this in the wrong thread and it was suggested I start a Hard times tokens thread. So Here it is. Show us what you got. I'll Start. Does anyone have any added info for this token? There are two mentioned in Mr. Bowers Book. I think this is the HT-66 but not to sure as I am new to these. Can you help?

When it comes to HTT's, I'm partial to the pictorial ones, like Dar's piece with the mythical Phoenix, rising from the flames. Here's my personal favorite for many reasons: Dr. Feuchtwanger, in 1837, was a man ahead of his time. His one cent tokens were the size of small cents that didn't appear for another twenty years. Love that eagle! It took the government until 1857 to get their eagle cent off the ground.

I own a full single-row box of CWTs but no Hard Times Tokens but I love looking at them! I think I may look for a Feuchtwanger.

Here's another. "Illustrious Predecessor/'Donkey' Token" (wont allow the correct name to be displayed, hence the word 'Donkey'") 1837 W-11-530a; Low-19; HT 33 Die number 2 What do you think?

I picked this one up because of the history it might tell. It MUST have been Hard Times to do what they did to the reverse to perhaps pass it off for commerce. Maybe a child back then? Someone who did not prescribe to the thinking behind them? Who knows. I just thought it was cool. W-11-140a Low-33; HT-48

Over my decades of collecting, I've seen many Hard Times and Civil War tokens that were damaged by having had the word "NOT" scratched out. These tokens had a cent's worth of copper, being specie or metal value. It's conceivable though that some merchants or customers were reluctant to accept tokens as replacements for cents. I suspect that this may have angered some customers who could justify that the copper content was equivalent; hence, the disgruntled damage.
