I was browsing Lyn Knight's world currency auction I came across this lot.

I don't know much about Canadian currency, but thought this was neat.

This kind of note will NOT be in my collection any time soon....

Sure is a neat note though... just about 3 zeros out of my price range..

how is this note considered rare? Based on amount printed or low serial number, thanks in advance, Cheers

It's considered rare because of the number of notes believed to still remain... Most of these notes are in institutional collections with few in private collections.

Only 9 of the 29 known to exist are in private collections.

This is the all English version.
There is an all French version that is even more rare.

The Canadian Currency Museum currently has every known example of the French $500 note.

If one ever comes to market, it will sell for a substantial amount.
