Hi everyone, I'm relatively new here. I've just recently started collecting Aussie coins, and I have only one bimetallic canadian coin 2 dollars with a polar bear on it. I was wondering, how many other types of canadian coins are there and any suggestions on how to expand my collection? Thx for any help. :)

once you get 50 posts you can find someone from Canada and swap pocket change for pocket change (your Australian pocket change for their Canadian pocket change)

gee, thats a long way to go... one fifth of the way there, but is there any other quicker way expand to my colection? Well I could buy them or go to canada I suppose, but I'm just a young numismatist or YN as I have seen people here say, which means I cant afford my own food let alone a trip there. :) Any other suggestions? Thx and sorry for being a pain guys.
Rest in Peace

You are forgiven. However I would suggest you go to a library and browse through some good world and Australian catalogues.
You are asking some VERY broard questions that are not answered easily in short sentances. There is nothing wrong with asking questions but a little bit of home research would go a long way.
In answer to your question about Australian notes; they all look the same because that's the way they are printed.

If you mean ordinary circulating coinage, then Canada has seven: 1˘, 5˘, 10˘, 25˘, 50˘ (not issued in great quantity), $1 and $2.

If by different types you include all the commemoratives, obsolete designs etc., then the number is in the hundreds - just like it is for Australia.

One way of telling the total number of different types a country has issued is to check the "Krause numbers", either in the Krause catalogue of world coins or on a reference site like NumisMaster or WorldCoinGallery.

The highest number I can find for Canada is #694 - that makes 694 listed types. Of course, this includes all the non-circulating commemoratives and bullion coins. As a comparison, Australia's highest KM# that I can find is #1014.

As for finding cheap Canadian coins, try the "scratch-trays" of your local coin dealers. Most dealers have a tray of cheap world coins, 20˘ each, 3 for 50˘ or something like that. Even those of us who are far from being beginners still like to sit down and rummage through the coins, looking for gap-fillers and anything else that takes our interest.

Justabeginner, I have a few Canadian coins I'm willing to sell, or perhaps swap for something interesting from Aus. But, as others have said, you'll probably need to wait until 50 posts.

Hi justabeginner,
what are you looking for exactly, are you looking for specific dates or all kinds. I'm from Canada and I'm also looking for world coins. but we'll probably need to wait for 50 posts also.
