I don't have one of these in my collection, but do have some questions regarding this issue.
Since all appear to be 1855/4 overdates (repurposing of one or more dies leftover from the previous year), does that imply a low mintage for 1855, and perhaps even for 1854 as well?
Also, with respect to the specimen illustrated in Resplandores (p. 177), are the striae evident across the cap and also through the upper rays and field correctly interpreted as adjustment marks that survived a less than robust strike?
I think you have interpreted the coin very well. The issues of the 1850s are scarce due to low mintage and the marks you noticed are in fact marks on the planchet that survived the soft strike.
