Ok excuse my ignorance but if the half was struck on a cent planchet why did some of the cents letters strike up on the Franklyn . The cent would have already been struck as a cent. also the color of the half if struck on a Lincoln should have been a copper color not silvery.

T-BOP, read the item title again. It was stuck over a 1948 cent, which means the cent had already been struck, so the half dollar design was not struck on a blank planchet.

I think this had to be mint assisted. Awesome coin but one of the workers had to purposefully throw a 1948 cent into the press.

Yea I'm pretty sure mint assisted is the correct term here. You have a cent that was already made and had to be physically put in the die for that Franklin to be stamped. Still a really really cool coin.

Wowsers! I am pretty certain that that cent had to have a helping hand into the half dollar blank hopper or placed directly in between the dies deliberately. Nice coin, but...pass.

I certainly respect our differences in opinion. This would not be my dream coin. A 1793 chain cent is my dream coin.

I dream about coins but not one that is a pure fabrication. This cannot in any way be called an error. Had it been a blank cent planchet perhaps but not a struck cent. As far as my dream coin it would have to be the one I am am primarily looking for to fill a hole in my collection at the moment because that one is all that I am thinking of at least until I find something else to fill a different slot. I'm so confused! Too many coins not enough money. Why won't they let me print more like the Federal Reserve?

My dream coin is a 1913 V nickel. You had to see that coming.
