Quick question, I was wondering if anyone kept the 'Frisco mint marks. I hunt pennies and seem to be finding as many of them as wheats. I am keeping the ones in really good condition, but should I keep the others too?

From the early 70s I do. Someday those ones are going to be the keys of the series.

ok cool because I found what seems to me an uncirculated 1933s this morning, and a few other which brought up my question.

I recently found a 74S in pocket change. I did put it aside when I looked into it and saw it was one of the last years of S penny production. Never graded one but I'd guess 20s? You can still read and see everything without magnification.

Unless they are BU, there really is no premium above face value for 1970's S mint cents. I keep any I find just for the cool factor, as I live on the east coast and don't see these too often. It's really up to you what you want to keep. Quote:

But that wouldn't be a true "key date", it would just be a condition rarity in MS/BU. There would still be millions of them around in general, which cannot be said of the classic Lincoln Cent keys such as the 1909-S VDB, 1914-d, or 1931-S. |

I also keep them as I rarely find them living on the east coast. I may find one every month or two but that's about it. its hard for me to get boxes where I live so max I do $5.00 worth at a time. The one box only full box I've done yeilded I think 4 with one being a wheat (44s is I remember right.) I also look through the till at work for anything cool and even found a steel penny a few months ago. Keeping them is up to you though but I'd say why not? It's only $.01 so it's not like it'll make or break you and since you posted this thread a part of you wants to keep it. Also it's copper so how could you go wrong? KEEP IT!!

I keep S mint marks cause, why not? if I ever get too many then I will just spend them. I am really liking finding the S halves, but the 70S dime and quarter I have found are nice surprises as well.
If there is a hole for it in my folder, I will keep it to fill that hole.

Out here on the West Coast, I find early 70s S mint cents all the time. In fact, just the other day, some of my classmates were tossing a coin around in the gym- when it came in my direction I caught it, and guess what it was- a 1972-S proof! Unfortunately, I had to give it back to them, and it was covered in fingerprints anyway.  In hindsight, I guess I could have just offered them a nickel for it. |

For the cents I keep them by default since I keep all pre-1982 cents. For the nickels I keep them by default since I keep all nickels. For everything else I keep them since they are going to be silver or proof (or both). |

Hoarding anything may depend on your age. If still young, possibly someday in the future many coins with S mint marks may prove valuable. HOWEVER, If not a large jump in value, remember that even a savings account gets some interest over the years. Hundreds of dollars in stockpiled coins may not compare with a simple savings account and with that you don't need to find places for anything except the bank book.
