Can anyone help me attribute this Peace dollar with multiple connected die cracks that completely circumvent the obverse?

You wouldn't think too many more coins were able to be struck after this one before catastrophic die failure occurred!

I have looked through the numerous varieties listed for the 1923-D on VAM World and the closest match I found was VAM-1AB2, but only because it has multiple die cracks somewhat similar to this one.

Any opinions on this one would be greatly appreciated!

I think it might be either http://www.vamworld.com/1923-D+VAM-1G 1G1

or

it could be http://www.vamworld.com/1923-D+VAM-1G2 1G2

I lean a little more 1G2 but hopefully others will chime in...

I think 1G1 is the appropriate assignment here. 1G2 needs that radial break towards the rim to my mind. The die gouge above OLLA is the "smoking gun" for 1G and I believe I see it here.

Thanks guys!

VAM World shows the reverse die scratch through the rays above "dollar" on 1G1 and 1G2.

However, the radial die break below GOD seems to be exclusive to the 1G2 and it is not apparent on my coin. So I'm leaning towards the 1G1.

Here are a few closer pics of those two areas.

Hello!
I've been researching this particular 1923-D VAM 1G2 issue as I have actually just recently, as part of a roll, acquired 3 coins with what appears to be very much like the coin you have pictured. Any information you might care to share on this particular VAM?
Much appreciated!
Rest in Peace

Welcome to CCF. I'm not sure what kind of information you're looking for but the SSDC census has 6 examples reported and I found this thread on VAMworld. http://www.vamworld.com/share/view/79416420
