I would appreciate some help with a value for a:

NGC PL 66 - 1951 - Low Relief - 5 cent

- NGC has is listed as finest available in PL/MS
- PCGS does not list PL for 1951, but tied for LR MS highest

I have found a bit of information on 1951 PL sets/coins, but it seems vague at best. I know they are floating around, but would love some more information if anyone here has it. Will upload a photo when I get the coin in hand.

Can't say I've ever seen a 1951 PL 5c before. PL sets weren't issued until 1953. A number of individual coins exist with PL grades from the years prior to that but I believe they are all 25c, 50c or $1. There is some debate about whether they are actually PL or mis-attributed Specimen coins though but my impression is the majority opinion is that they are individual PL coins. However, since yours is a 5c I would be more inclined towards saying it's either a very nice circulation coin or a mis-attributed specimen (which would be much more valuable). See http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins...ts-1937-1952 which doesn't give PL pricing for the 5c as compared to http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins...ts-1937-1952 which does for the 25c. By comparison, the Charlton Vol 1 catalogue doesn't give prices for either. Maybe if you could post some good close-ups of the coin some of the experts could tell you whether it was worth getting it cross-graded by ICCS or CCCS or not.

Thanks kuh_85,

Here is the info I could find on PL sets, a very interesting book.

A couple photos, but I have not seen the coin in hand yet.
