Hi. My first time at posting. Been viewing for about a month now and find this site has many an expert in coin identification. Hats off to all. Anyway, I recently found this 1916 Barber dime and I noticed the either dbl strike s, off set, etc. or whatever it may be. I have been unable to find any info on it.

Lastly, does it have any extra value based on the error if in fact it is what it is? Coin if in very nice shape.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and comments.

Howdy stgeorge and welcome!
The term is "Shelf Doubling."

I'm one of the Barber fans here and I specialize in the dimes.
(Can't afford the halves and quarters!)

Check out the link in my signature - the BCCS is a great resource.

I am by no means an expert, but I think the doubling on the mint mark is what is called Strike Doubling or Machine Doubling damage.

Strike doubling/machine doubling damage adds no extra value.

Hope you'll stay and continue enjoying the site.

That may be an RPM (repunched mintmark), but I can't say for sure.

It looks like Machine Doubling to me.
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

Looks like an RPM for the mint mark. Also, sort of some Machine Doubling on those leafs on the right. Still, all in all, nice coin. And yes, some people would pay extra for that RPM.

A clue in determining Strike Doubling as apposed to hub doubling is if the coin was minted before 1990 and the doubling is present on the mintmark and other devices on the coin and showes inthe same general direction then in all likelihood it is a type of Strike Doubling.
Before 1990 the mintmark was placed on each individual working die after any doubling would have already been impressed. 1990 and after the mintmark was a part of the master hub and could show the doubling of the other devices
