Found this 1905 IHC and it's got problems for sure. How would this happen and why? Never seen or can find info such as fantasy, trick, etc. Can anyone provide information?

Never handle coins with metal objects! They will scratch and ruin a coin. Even worse, yours is a pointy crocodile clip Use your hands and handle them by the edges.

I can't think of anything at the Mint that can do this, so I would say PMD.

Very odd

PMD.

If there was a hole in the center it would appear like someone was making a small pulley (for what?). It never ceases to amaze me what oddball things people did to coins.

Could it be a clamshell error?

This is just a guess, but it sort of looks like it was intentionally scored to fit into a good luck charm. Then it got bent out of shape. You can see some examples here: http://www.thepennylady.com/charmys...oneumia.html Scroll down to see the good luck charms.

Machinists often used metal coins to test equipment and hone their skills. This coin appears to have been the subject of someone's "science experiment" if you will. Machinists were inventive and patented many useful items along with improvements to existing ones. They counterstamped many coins, too, using their personal and patent marks, too. Machinists had an especially "cutting edge" occupation - pun intended.

Looks like 2 IHC's that were shaved on one side like for love tokens then soldered together
