Bought this one for $19.15, but I'm doubtful it's a good purchase as I think it looks polished.

What would it grade and what could it be worth?

Doesn't look polished to me. I'd say grade wise about G-6, and I would price it at $20-$25

You actually bought a 1894 s Barber quarter a better date looks like an inverted s mint mark. VG details, probably cleaned a long time ago. Not bad for $20...

I'm not seeing the mintmark. Isn't it supposed to be under the tail?

Thanks for your opinions so far.

I can actually see a faint 'S' under the tail from my pictures, too. Having the coin in hand, I can see it. Problem is that it's so faint. What could have caused this? Struck though grease or illusion?

VG-8 with maybe an old cleaning, doesn't look polished though. It does look like an 1894-S.

Date analysis:

https://www.davidlawrence.com/books...ysis/1894-s/

I see a faint "S" as well. There are several positions.
As the mint mark was added in San Francisco perhaps the worker did not do a good job.
The coin is well preserved both obv. and rev. VG-8.
I do not think that it was cleaned. Just well circulated.
