The town library got a new microfilm machine and the old one somehow ended up in my bedroom. Anyone have any old microfilm laying around?

We want to think it was something noble, like a fundraiser.

However, it was probably just tossed on the junk heap from where an enterprising Harmonica rescued it.

Hmmm. I wonder if the ANA library might have some. Not sure if I'm being serious or I should lol?

Jbuck, you nailed it twice! I cooped at the library in highschool and worked there for a year so they know I love coins, harmonicas and anything different. When they got a new microfilm machine in that hooks up to a computer and all that jazz they said that they were tossing the old one and that they are looking for donations to go towards a new building.

I put two and two together and snatched it up and donated $10.

Cascade, I'll check with the RCNA, thank you.

That's cool but, what's the point? I mean does it transfer the fiche to the reader? What's the deal?

Being able to print to PDF I suppose.

It will not be long before they have them all digitized from the "volunteers" viewing and saving them.

Sort of already outdated machinery. Where I used to work a long time ago they put stuff on microfilm. Eventually it all was put into computers so film just slowly vanished. The real problem with any kind of film is longevity. It slowly just becomes useless.

I have about 90 years of the ANA's Numismatist on microfilm; they offered it about 20 years ago.

It covers the very first issues up until the early 1990's. It was a great research tool for me for a good number of years.

Now, I have my own print copies of the magazine from 1930 to date and much of the early issues are available electronically so I don't need to use the microfilm much anymore. It still does come in handy from time to time, however.

I bought a surplus UNC reader on ebay for $30 and was able to pick it up and avoid shipping charges. All in all, it was a good investment!
