My son and I are hitting more skunk boxes on the nickels. We are thinking about adding another coin denomination to our roll hunting. We know that quarters are the least productive.
So of the other denominations, what would be the most productive choice to add?

Halves if you can get a solid source. Dimes = headache with such small dates, but I hear can be productive. Cents.. Only $25 a box and can offer different things to track to keep exciting. Copper, LWC, foreign, etc.

Traditionally the highest yeailding denominations for silver finds are halves then nickels. So go with those if your looking for silver. However, I think every denomation has a different incentive to search. With all the statehood and America the Beautiful Quarters the past fifteen years a circulated set of clad quarters would be a challenge for sure. But if your looking for coins that are 50+ years old or varieties then you need to look at cents. a lot of varieties in that series

Cents! Not for finding silver, but you get a ton of wheats per box, like maybe 10. I think after searching a quarter of a million pennies, my best box was 18. I've found wheats dated all the way back to 1909! There is a lot still to find in penny boxes, and you'll find some goodies if you look! Plus, wheat cents are the coolest coins. Just sayin! Only $25 a box, as mentioned.

define "productive."
yeah, cents would be (and is) my choice. But I get bogged down because I insist on saving the 1972, 1983, 1984, and 1995 cents to check for double dies. I save 1955's anyway, regardless of doubling (still looking . . .). There are other errors/varieties, but those are the ones I actively check. I haven't actually *found* any double dies, yet, but that doesn't stop me from saving those dates out and taking a look. {grin}

If you do do cents, check for 1992 P and D CAM's (close AM's), if you find one you'll be rolling in the dough.

Been doing this since the 1970's.
If you'd like consistent silver, dimes.
If you like BIG silver, halves, but prepare for skunk streaks.
Cents for copper and wheats.
Silver quarters can be found, but you must search volumes. Actually, my silver quarter finds come close to silver dimes by weight, per volume searched.
If migrating to dimes, I prefer to edge search only. After awhile, one should be able to search and re-roll $5 worth of dimes in less than 10 seconds. I don't waste time searching them, especially if I'm pressed for time and need to run through 2 grand worth of CWR dimes in an hour or two.
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors... Roll hunting since '77 Dirt fishing since '72

If finding something/anything is important, then cents.

I've gone through tons of boxes of cents. My avg per box is about 13 wheats. My best outing was 900+ wheats in 3 total boxes of Pennies!! My son and I had a blast, 11 wheats in a roll was our highest. Avg was 6 or 7 a roll. I've found over 11 indian heads searching through pennies. Very rare. Found one silver dime in a roll of pennies! pretty cool. I'm currently getting back into Click Clacking, and I'm going through pennies as we speak. Good luck on what you decide.

Mr Click, I tweaked your signature (the bottom line was being cut-off). Let me know if you like it.
