Interesting. I agree with damaged punch pushing a broken piece into the die. This is because of the concave shave protruding the nine.

Cool coin. I think it looks like the 9 has a horn. Maybe it should be called a unicorn 9.

$ 1k for an AU: not bad for starters.

I wonder what the R scale rating would be on this coin.

One thing I have never clearly understood about the pricing of these things is that just two or three having been discovered, for example, can be less valuable compared to a variety with eight to ten discoveries unveiled.

In my opinion, this coin is way overvalued....maybe its unique, maybe not. Maybe there will be many found afterward, maybe not. I can see the "immediate" hype surrounding a new variety, but not for this price.

I would rather have a mint state 1897 S-1 for the price.....Rich has an MS62 BN (photo sealed) for the same price. A much more famous and popular coin for the same price.
