thetracer Valued Member United States 59 Posts	Posted 06/12/2015 12:03 pm Pardon my ignorance and search for knowledge. I thought that lamination required layers. Wheat cents are not layered. They are an alloy. Maybe the batch didn't get stirred in that spot? Report this Post to the Staff

When the mix isn't correct it sometimes peels off or shows the incorrect mix in the planchet. (woody coins) On this one the peeling is taking place in a straight line near the center of the coin, as well as on the motto area. The lamination issue is peeling in some areas and others you can see where it hasn't happened yet. So we see this often on the copper planchet coins and also on silver planchet coins.
