Pre 1982 cents are solid copper planchet cents. When the mix isn't correct it sometimes peels off or shows the incorrect mix in the planchet. (woody coins) On this one the peeling is taking place in a straight line near the center of the coin, as well as on the motto area. The lamination issue is peeling in some areas and others you can see where it hasn't happened yet. So we see this often on the copper planchet coins and also on silver planchet coins. The clad coins are made a different way. Hope this helps?
