instead of keeping 1 example from a pool of problem coins why not sell them all and buy 1 good one ?

I tend to be a bit ruthless. High or low quality, if I no longer really want the coin, it goes. If I have a coin I really like but in low grade, I will use the funds to buy a higher grade and then sell the low grade one.

I'd rather have 10 coins I really admire than 1000 that just take up space but that I rarely look at.

Now if you really love all 1,000 of them, then don't downsize. You will regret doing so. Only downsize when you are really ready.
