Dark brown on a decent planchet. I would guess F-VF. What do you think?

G06, very nice coin.
edit: Was going by Photograde. For some reason I always seem to grade low on these.

What is everyone's opinion on the reddish color, mostly on the obverse in recessed areas? - Natural? - Artifact of the photo or lighting? - Something else?

VG10
Natural tone. The cool thing about old copper, it can tone very cool shades of copper color.

Another nice cent, worldnumis. Nice colour and even surfaces. Grade-wise I am very tempted to say F12, or very close to that as there is enough separation in the leaves. Probably need to have it in-hand. Tried to attribute it, but 1798's are challenging for me.

This is a very cool cent. The corrosion on the obverse hurts but it's still a great coin. My attribution for this coin is that it is Sheldon variety S-185 which is an R.3. This obverse die is the aptly named "Low 9" die. This coin is an earlier die state as well, none of the characteristic obverse cracks appearing yet. As far as grade, this coin is tricky. I will give it an F-12 sharpness grade but I will have to net grade the coin to EAC 8. Like I said the corrosion on Liberty's face hurts. Still a rare and desirable coin overall. 1798 S-185 R.3 12/8
