Again, I'm a beginner, so, I'm just learning. I was looking at a 45 s and 45 s LWP from my new auction stuff the other day when I saw what looked like a thumb print on the 46 S. So, I took it carefully out of the holder, took pics, then did some research before I posted the pics, which are not the best quality but I think you can make out what I'm talking about.

Anyway, is that a die clash on the obverse (the finger print looking part) and, could I be lucky enough to have that be an inverted mint mark too?

Nothing on the reverse would make a clash look like that, plus, you can tell it is some kind of stain because the design is a different color. It would be raised if it was a clash. As for the mm,

Wrong style of mint mark for it to be rotated:

The rotated one is the Ball serif on the right.

Note the crease in the upper look of the "S"? You can see that upside down on the two images.

I think what you are seeing on the reverse is known as Internal Metal Displacement Phenomenon IMDP.
It is pretty common on the 1946 cents.

Coop , I had no idea there were two inverted S dies for 46, and both ball serifs to boot ! The rolls I have been theough looking for one too !
Looking closer at #2 I may have passed that one over. Back to the rolls !

Some save the BU Ball serif examples from 1946-S as they are fewer than the other two other styles.

OK, guys, thanks again. I keep trying to research the varieties as they come to my attention, but, gosh, there is a lot to learn. I'm very glad to have this forum, and, I apologize if my questions get irritating!
