Yeah, it seems we are a week early or Moe's schedule is a week off.

Hello,
Would it be too much of a deviation from this thread's 1/2 cent photography topic to also state or briefly comment, when applicable, on any verified or suspected variety associated with each uploaded photo?
This would be extremely informative and interesting for any avid 1/2 cent collector whether or not they have yet to delve into the varietal arena.
I just acquired the new 'Penny Prices' book which is devoid of any descriptive pictures...

When I have time Ill attribute them. Some of the early ones will need to be identified as having lettered edges or not though. I plan on posting my classic heads with cohen numbers. Penny Prices isn't very useful without a real attribution guide for the series and an understanding of EAC grading. For Half Cents the reference to have is by Manley.

I think that's a wonderful idea!! I, unfortunately, won't be much help since I have no attributions for any of my Half Cents, and no reference material in order to get them. I would be VERY interested in some of our experts taking the time to attribute the coins posted, if they have the time.

I plan on getting walter breen's encyclopedia of united states Half Cents as soon as my funds become available. Until then I don't have the resources to identify the attributions either.

I would not get Breens book. Find a copy of US Half Cents by Manley if you can. Breens is outdated and inaccurate. I have both but Manley is all I ever use now.

@ EFLargeCents
Do you know where I could get a hold of the book you recommended?

Unfortunately you have to search for it as it has been out of print. I got mine from the secondary market with some patience. You can still use Breen to attribute varieties, but his die states are wrong as is some of his conclusions regarding the varieties. If you are looking just to be able to attribute Half Cents by Cohen variety and not necessarily interested in die states, there is a quickfinder guide available that doesn't cost too much that I have that is a great brief reference. Self published by G.S. Heim the information to acquire one can be found here and I think they are still available: http://www.eacs.org/books.html scroll to Half Cent section.

I really like the price of the quick finder's guide. Looks like I'll go with that one until I can find Manley's book. Thanks for the help EFLargeCents :)

I guess it's time to prepare the old photos for upload. It looks like three coins (in slabs) can be redone with digital, using the latest techniques. The new pics will be sharper than the old, but the coins will probably look worse. I wonder if there's a place in this thread for a 1787 Massachusetts Half Cent (same size as a regular one).
