I've almost completed a George the V Canadian nickel collection except for the key. I have grown to really like the reverse and I'm starting to find a bigger example of it. I was thinking of moving up to a half dollar or silver dollar from Canada from that period. I also saw a similar portrait on the Indian Ruppee. I was wondering how many countries had crowned portraits of George V on their coinage.

I'm mostly looking for something that is silver and large which I could grab for close to spot silver prices. Is their any specific coins that would fit this profile.

I don't like the uncrowned portraits like on the British penny at the time. I really like all the Indian portraits of British rulers and the Canadian portrait of George V.

Australia and South Africa both used the crowned portrait of George V found on Canadian coins of the same era.

Lower-grade Australian Florins can usually be found near spot value and are quite abundant, so those might be your best bet. South African issues also include the slightly larger Half-Crown, which Australia lacks.

New Zealand used a slightly different crowned portrait, similar to the one found on the 1935 Canadian $1. This portrait is also found on the coins of Fiji.

Other minor nations which used the crowned portrait include British East Africa, British West Africa, Straits Settlements, Hong Kong, British Honduras, Cyprus, Ceylon, Jersey, Jamaica, and of course Newfoundland. Along with a few more which I'm probably forgetting

I don't know what it is about it but coins with crowns on portraits look a lot better to my eye.

I think the Cyprus 45 piastres (one year issue though I can't remember what year off the top of my head) is the largest example you'll find of Edgar Bertram Mackennal's crowned portrait of George V though I'm not sure how they're priced.
