Hey all, just wondering if the experts might be able to shed some light on this coin and to what exactly it is. 13mm diameter and 0.48g weight.

It's a guess, however I think this might be a replica Anglo-Saxon penny.

You think the age might be faked? Hmm would be interesting to know!

I agree with pertinax. I seems too round and centered for an authentic coin- just a little too perfect.

I assume the side with the large-A-in-circle is based on one of these Anglo-Viking coins, while the other side is based on an inscription-in-two-lines type coin such as one of these. But two anachronisms stand out to me: this piece looks machine-made, and to the best of my knowledge the central t-shaped cross never featured on early English coins; early crosses were always +-shaped.

With no maker or inscription, I suspect this one will be hard to try to find other examples of.

You're slipping, Sap. The ebay seller has already nailed this as a "denar," and pinned the date down to 1200. No, wait! 1100!

On another forum, this seller is often discussed and regarded as "light relief".

I never even noticed the watermark in the OP's pics!

And yes, this particular seller has proven their, um, "strategic incompetence" countless times before. Much of what they sell is either fake or extremely mis-identified (ie a common-as-dirt ancient bronze hyped up as some kind of super-rarity). Avoid, avoid, avoid this seller.
