Hello everyone,

Currently, along with US Large Cents, Half Cents and colonial coins, I am collecting third reich coinage. It is a somewhat easy series to collect, the prices aren't too high even on key dates and my LCS only charges fifty cents per coin, but I have found it nearly impossible to locate the 1940-1941 five and ten reichspfennig military issues.

I have been kicking myself ever since I realized, before I began collecting third reich coins, that I have seen one in that aforementioned fifty cent bucket at the shop. Either he realized it was much more rare than his usual selection, or some one else came in and scooped it up before me.

So, my question is, does anyone know of a reputable online dealer (can be in the U.S. or international) who may have some of these?

They are pretty expensive, so I may not be able to afford them right now. Howevrr, I have been searching far and wide on sites like numista, coin talk, and the like for some one who might be willing to trade them to me. At one point, I had a nice exchange all set up but at the last moment the other party backed out.

Oh well, seems I will just have to purchase one now. That is, if I can even find one.

Exactly! How did you find those? I must have been entering the wrong search information.

Edit: Oh boy, those are expensive.

Those 3 in the link are way over priced its comical (minus the 90 usd one). A good rule of thumb is in the range of 50-60 USD for A's in good condition, below that is a bonus and still not impossible to snag.

Which ones are you generally interested in acquiring? Are you only buying ones in great condition? ebay is great for getting good prices on the 1940 A 5 and 10's.

As I mentioned in your other thread, message me or post here if you have some questions on value or anything else!

Zinc coins from world war II are hard to find in decent UNC condition.

I've seen German coins for sale here. http://germancoins.com/

Note that I have never dealt with him personally so I cannot vouch for his service.

Hydropwnics, I attempted to send you a private message, but you hAve Tennessee feature turned off in your account.

Just wanted to let you know, yes, I am mostly looking for examples in higher grades and, believe it or not, it is a 1940-D 10 Reichskreditkassen!

Just found out I almost got ripped off for what I thought was the 1940-D 10. Turns out it is a 5.

Good thing I had the other party send the coin first!

Yeah the 1940 10 D routinely goes for over 3000 Euros. So I'd be very surprised to see them for sale outside of the major European auction houses.

The 1940 5 D on the other hand, isn't nearly as rare. I value them in good condition at around 150 USD.

Well that is still good news, the coin I am receiving is VF+ and I traded for it at a $60 value.

I will post photos of the coin in the grading section once I receive it.

Congrats, they are still quite hard to find, especially in good condition. I can post or email you pictures of some of my coins next week if you'd like to see certain mint marks.

@gxseries: germancoins.com is a reputable source for German coins. It's run by Ron Guth, the 2014 ANA Numismatist of the year, president of PCGS coinfacts, author and long time coin collector/dealer. He generally gets good material and his grading is very fair and accurate. His prices can often be on the high side. But if you don't mind the prices, there's no reason not to use him. I've bought some tough coins from him and gotten some good information over the last few years.
