My father was in Korea right about when the war ended (circa 1954). This is a military script he brought back and later he gave me. They weren't allowed to carry US cash while stationed there.

Military scrip is a vast and fascinating area of numismatics, often with a personal connection like your piece. Nice.

Military Payment Certificates(MPC) were issued for use at many overseas bases after WWII up to the Vietnam War. Pay was received in these bills, but they could only be used on the base or other military facilities. They had to be exchanged for local currency to spend off the base. A copy of Fred Schwan's "Military Payment Certificates" list them all and explains their history.

Very cool! My grandfather also served in Korea, although all of the notes he kept were smaller denominations, mostly 10 and 25 cents.

Nice. That's a good-looking one too. Thanks for sharing it and your story.
