I just couldn't resist this one. It came in the mail today. 37mm.
Half length bust of James I with orb, right, 2nd coinage, 4th bust, trefoil mintmark. S-2619.

G'day T360, that coin has a lot of history. At 37mm, I'm guessing that the the gold in it is nearly half what you paid for it. Which means you didn't pay much for the "other component": nearly 400 years of history. I think you did very well at the price quoted.
And it's a good looking coin.

Can you say nice? I knew you could....what a beauty....

Based on what I've seen of English hammered silver, I'd guess that this coin is pretty thin. At around 10 grams weight (Baldwins has a James Unite right now in gVF for $5000)it's slightly bigger in diameter than a US $20 gold piece which weighs 3x as much. The size of the English hammered coins is very impressive: big coin, big value. But they sure get mutilated easily - folds, clips, dents, etc. This one is a beauty.

Lovely coin. I've always fancied owning a Unite (maybe one day).I think you've done well on the price too. Congrats!
