Another coin for my WWII folder. Got this one at the coin club auction too. He has hits on the face, bummer, the fields are very clean. The Rev. is pretty clean with a couple minor hits. The coin as a whole is a weaker strike. The luster is mint fresh. What your opinions on this one? Thanks

Not bad except for the hits. MS-63.

I'd say low MS, but how does an MS coin get hits like that

Reverse looks off. Those are heavy hits for a MS coin but I have seen that in OBW's and OBB's (quite a few of the Omaha hoard coins that didn't pull a -64+ had notable marks.) I'm going in with MS-63 but that reverse scares me. Is this coin in TPG plastic or raw? I'd like to see the obverse from a camera to check that luster. Without the marks it might pull a 64. I also disagree with your assessment of the strike; for a 1941 Washington it's actually a pretty decent strike. The only glaringly obvious weakness I see is the eagle's right wing feathers.

paralyse, The first pics were taken with a camera. This coin is raw. Here is another set that shows the luster. Also a close up of the hits on the face. Maybe the coin is a solid strike, I'll leave that up to you experts. Just seems weak and flat to me. Maybe they all are, I have not dove into this series yet. Why do you question the Rev?

Much better shot in 2nd pics, reverse is OK -- great coin :) MS-63, normal strike with slight weakness on left (from eagle's point of view) wing feathers. I see no signs of wear, only some light die polishing lines.

I dunno, the fields look pretty clean to me, only these smallpox-like pits on the bust hold it back. Some sort of air bubbles when it was stamped?

I'd grade the coin in the 60-62 range. I think 63 is pushing it. Bet it has some nice cartwheel in hand too.

The second set of photos shows an AU-58 coin. Friction on the high points most noticeable on the obverse. I change my grade guess from MS-63 down to AU-58.
