I had made a post a while back about having a hard time doing traditional set collecting. I have been thinking about it and researching and decided on several sets to work on at once so I don't get too bored. I've been picking up albums this past month in prep. Most of these tend to be larger silver coins, which seem to be my favorite.

Here's my planned sets:

1) Received the Dansco 7172 today: Silver Dollar Date Set. One coin per year for the Morgan, Peace, Ike and SBA series. This will be fun and there are still a few challenging years. This also has a place for an example of each mint mark, so I'll still have to find a CC Morgan. Only have 2 coins in the album today, 53 to go.

2) Library of Coins Franklin half dollar album. I made a post about this recently. I am 1/4 done with this. Just a standard full set minus proofs.

3) Great Britain Silver Type Set. This is a Whitman Bookshelf series album from about 1960 and includes all the 20th century Shilling, Florin, Half, Crown types through the late 50s. Most are silver. Have 5 coins and a 31 to go.

4) Undated Whitman Bookshelf Album for Canadian Silver Dollars. I plan to fill this with all regular Silver type coins as well as all 50% Silver Commems.

5) Random World Silver. Only have a few, but I have a stack of holders and binder with pages and plan to fill it! This is what I do when I can't find anything for my sets at the moment and I have coin money burning a hole in my pocket.

6) Undated Half Dollar Dansco. I have this about 1/2 full of Kennedy halves and modern Commemorative Halves. I plan to keep filling it with Random Half dollar coins that aren't part of the franklin set. I decided not to go for the full Kennedy set (too many!) and I don't like ALL of the commemoratives, so I'm just picking up ones I find that I like and are a good deal. I will probably have some more common WLH in here, too.

7) Littleton 20th Century Type Set ALbum. I spend last year filling this and only have the Barber half and quarter left. I'm waiting for the right deal to come along.

So there you have it. Might even take me a decade to finish all of these, but at least I know what I'm working on. With so many sets, I can be organized and Attention deficit all at once!

The dansco7172 sounds interesting. I'll have to check that album out. Good luck!

I definitely like the 7172. This is something on my long list.

Here is an excellent example from GR58...

Yeah, it seems like a lot, but I plan to take my time and I like being able to have some variety. I picked up 2 Franklins, an SBA and 4 GB Shillings for my sets today at the coin show. I could have bought just 4 Franklins but that didn't seem as fun.

The 7172 is really a LONG term goal. I think it may take 10-15 years to completely finish. Just has one lonely Peace dollar and an SBA right now! :)

Long term goals are good to have.

My 7070 is the perfect example of that.

Those will be a sight to behold when they are finished!

I think one of my favorite things about coin collecting is setting a goal, making a list of coins needed and then filling that list and crossing things off. I mean, I just get geared up thinking about how much fun you can have with the above goals you have. They are challenging but do-able.
