This 1996 Cent has very clean fields, mostly sharp steps on memorial. The question I have is about the striations that run across, most visible on the obverse. Are those from the planchet prior to striking? Do they affect grade? I am trying to learn from you guys when I find things that make me ask questions, so I appreciate your thoughts and grade for this coin!

Funny beauty mark gas bubble. Lol. I grade it at MS66 because of the marks on his forehead to his chin. The lines,

They flow the same direction on both sides of the coin - this is called a striated planchet and the marks are called striations. Leaning this way instead of roller abrasions due to the "beauty mark" as SilverStackerKid so aptly describes it just above, since coins with striations tend to have other planchet flaws.

I can see it being an MS-66.

I'm at a MS65 on this one, personally. It may be a 66, but the bag mark nicks on Lincoln's head say otherwise.

I am pretty sure the "beauty mark" was part of the design that year. The marks on Lincoln's forehead and chin are deal breakers for me.

That's a very nice example, 66/67RD.
