1996 D Lincoln Memorial Cent / LMC , Grade And A Question

gymcoachdon Pillar of the Community United States 717 Posts	Posted 06/20/2015 8:25 pm This 1996 Cent has very clean fields, mostly sharp steps on memorial. The question I have is about the striations that run across, most visible on the obverse. Are those from the planchet prior to striking? Do they affect grade? I am trying to learn from you guys when I find things that make me ask questions, so I appreciate your thoughts and grade for this coin! Report this Post to the Staff

paralyse Bedrock of the Community United States 12057 Posts	Posted 06/20/2015 8:52 pm They flow the same direction on both sides of the coin - this is called a striated planchet and the marks are called striations. Leaning this way instead of roller abrasions due to the "beauty mark" as SilverStackerKid so aptly describes it just above, since coins with striations tend to have other planchet flaws.
