A while ago I bought two coins in a lot. I was really after the Spain, Emporion that was in the lot, but this coin turned out to be interesting as well.
If my attribution is correct it is Carthage, AE 3 Shekels, 201-146 BC as seen at the bottom of this page. http://www.magnagraecia.nl/coins/Pu...ugitana.html and would be one of the last coins made by the Carthaginians before the final Roman destruction of Carthage.
Sadly the reverse is very worn. The coin has deep blade marks on both sides, more on the rev., but they don't show up as well. It makes me wonder if it was a Roman soldier who put them there during the sack.
I don't know how scarce these are, but I haven't found many pictured in data bases. Opinions?
Anoob, thanks for the confirmation. I was hoping you chime in.
pishpash, yes your coin is very similar and the reverse is much better. As of yet I haven't seen one with the mark under the horse like yours, it could be Muller 250. Yours is deeply scratched as well!
