Guys, I am going to picking up my first box of USA halfs, and I need a little help with what I should be looking for.

I know 64 and older are 90% silver

however from 65-70 there is 40% silvers

Question, are all 3 mint marks silver, or only the San frans?

also the '76 is 40% but again is this only the San fran as well?

is there a huge market for NIFC, and should I be keeping them?

Basically I am looking for silver or for anything else that worth keeping. I am not specifically looking to complete a set, just stacking.

Thanks for the help guys.

From 65-67 there was no MM's. All half dollars, regardless of MM were silver until 1971, when they changed to clad.

San Francisco only minted 40% silver issues as proof strikes 1968-1970 and again in 1976 as a proof and BU strike(both 1976 types are found only in the 3 coin Unc and Proof Bicentennial sets). As a matter of practicality, the only silver halves that you stand a reasonable chance of finding in a bank box are 1964(P), 1964D, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968D, and 1969D. There were no Philly halves minted 1968-1970 and the 1970D was only included in Mint Sets. For NIFC issues, the 1987P and 1987D were only included in Mint Sets and 2002-present are also NIFC(sold in bags and rolls).
