I have a few quite nice examples of some hammered Florentine coinage. I have the types identified but some of the marks remain a mystery - hopefully someone with more knowledge in this area or a better textbook might be able to shed some light:

Hammered-Florentine-Republic-Coins---A-Little-Help-With-Type

1 - Grosso Guelfo 1477 ND (1189 - 1532)

1.89 grams. Appears to be the issue for 1477 except the mintmasters mark is merely a dot or small circle - unlike all other examples I can see.

2 - as above, unsure of date and exact type

3 - Fiorino Grosso da 2 Soldi (Popolino)

1.73 grams. A series struck between 1306 - 1313(?) - but I cannot find any with the symbol on this coin to the right of the head on the Obverse. Several other symbols denote particular years and I have found pictures of the more relatively common dates, but none for this one.

Any help identifying these marks to get an exact type for these coins would be hugely appreciated. Thanks!

These are very pretty coins - fascinating but I know nothing at all about the type and I suspect any text regarding them will be obscure. I had a love for early English Hammered coins as a kid which got displaced as I entered the world of counterfeits.

With that caveat - are you sure the "fish" to the left of the head on the last coin is not the moneyer's symbol?
