I would be remiss in not giving some credit here. My inspiration for this adventure was a writer whom I have never met, Tom Becker, who used to write columns for the old CCRS website:

Back in 2008, it was Sandy Campbell who also urged me to keep pushing on this series. It is his opinion (and mine) that this series is definitely a long term sleeper in Canadian numismatics. Large 15.8 gram pure nickel coins, really low mintages, grade rarities and the last of the voyageur series. Lastly, Bill Cross should be thanked for his support and encouragement for my work in this series.

I would say that the nickel 50-cent series is very ripe for the picking... those are slowly getting eaten by the RCM alloy recovery program as well... but that is a series I am not going to touch - I simply hate the reverse design (except on the 1967 20 dollar gold strike) and I am not a fan of the modern plated strikes.

I am smiling to my ears as I write this because of how happy I am for you. I think for what you've gone through doing this set you deserve more than me simply saying congrats, but I am at a loss for what to say. what I can say though is that for your work here and for the numismatic community you truly deserve it!

you deserve this, man!

frug777, nicke dollars can be had for nothing if they are ungraded, supply and dmenad type thing. SPP knew what he was looking for and got most of these dollars from dealers $1 bin or what not.

Yes, MS67 would have no bag marks or nics.

Kind of a shame that CCF member 'Ugly' is not around to see this... he was rather fond of my ambitions to 'play' with nickel dollars...

Depends on the strike - you can find both in the 5-coin pliofilm strips... that is why 1968 nickel dollars are easy, and cheap to find in MS-65

interesting, I found one at my lcs from 1970 today that I am picking up on Saturday. it is a flawless coin almost as far as preservation goes, but it has a slight tone from handling and a very weak strike. would ICCS give it a grade and note the weak strike? or would they lower the grade like PCGS?
