In Canadian coins, the Trail Dies errors are uncommon. Some of you may have seen those on the 1953 5-cent, which are the best developed I have seen on any Canadian coin. I just went through a large batch of nickel dollars from Coin Expo, and noticed these die trails, from the denticles on a 1969 proof-like nickel dollar. Forgive my imagery here, these things are darn hard to photograph on a mirror proof-like surface. As a side comment, the error website referenced in SPP's post above is a very interesting read.

Die trails can be interesting. I do see those waffley lines in that dollar. Thats the first time I ever seen that 1953 nickel though and it looks pretty cool.

I have found several hundred cent trail dies and a few on quarters,U.S. coins. The dollar coin posted does not look like a trail die to me. Could be the pics though. John1

these are all wonderful images. I have been searching. a lot of uncirculated sets of the 1968 and 1969 nickel dollars. these sets are from members of the club. I am part of I have found some very slight different. for what ever reason the 68 69 just intrigue me. the different mostly are on the denticles. with the odd die clash. I have returned most of the sets. I have a few more to go through. these images are great. very well done

Hmmmm...interesting. These latest pictures do look like trails to me. I was with John on the dollar coin though. I'd love to hear (read) what one of the experts are thinking. My thought is that trails were typical to modern coining methods. But these older specimens have me rethinking.

That's a nice one. The '53s are fairly common and I've seen a few different angles too.

Your welcome Robmck..yours is awesome, easy to see. I spotted mine by fluke and remembered this thread, I wasn't going to put that 64 nickel under the scope but glad I did.

322483802179This listing reminded me of this thread. Interesting to see a battle for it on ebay. It is currently sitting at $68. Higher than I would have expected.
