Quote:Hope u find an affordable, decent 1916 Me too, but those two may be diametric terms. I.E., if it's affordable if may not be decent, and if it's decent, you may be paying a lot. But, they did make 52,000 of them!! Here's mine, if you want to see it: 1916 Standing Liberty quarter Dollar

Even in that shape, it has to be nearly a $1000 coin...I am guessing, Moe.

What I am saying is if you concentrate on one set at a time you can fill most of them if you have the time and money. I am not rich but I can afford a 1916 LSQ if I can find one. I just try and do one set at a time. I may lay low for a while but then I go back to the collection and pick up the trail. I know that if I were collecting many sets that I like at the same time I would never finish even one. This is what my brother does. He has many sets and never finishes any not even the Ike Silver Dollar. I am not being critical of any other collector's methods only my own. So I put the 1916 LSQ as a goal. It is something to shoot for and accomplish. I am thinking that those Quarter Eagle Indian Heads are a might nice coin. Maybe that will be next instead of Mercury dimes. One at a time for me except with a Saint-Gauden low mintage Double Eagle as a target of opportunity.

I agree with most of the aforementioned, however, I chose an alternate path by collecting the two (unoffically three, 1925-1930 recessed date) types and get the best examples I could afford.
Looking forward to seeing them!

Pretty interesting idea, Moe, to collect best coins you can afford in later years. The 27-D and 27-S are low mintage and yet much cheaper than 23-S.

Quote: Great diagnostic picture, Moe! I never realized these differences since its price precluded the '16 from my near-term attainable goals. Question: Do these same features on the aforementioned '17 likewise manifest themselves on all of the other SLQs?

I bought eight LSQ's today with various dates. The best condition coin was a 1925 in EF . I got it for $30. The dates on the coins before 1925 are really vague on some. I am trying to buy the more common ones in Fine condition. This is easier said than done. I have all the coins from 1925-terminus. I can see that all those before 1925 will be tricky just due to the awful dates. I am not buying a coin if I cannot see the date with the naked eye. I don't care if the coin can be proven to the a 1916 with a blank date. I don't want that for my collection. I think I am going to buy any coin with a good date even if it is expensive because it is just too difficult to get good dates on these more rare coins. I had a chance to buy a 1921 but the date was really weak. I did that with my LWH collection with the 1916S and I regret that, but I let price dictate to me. This is going to take me some time since I am not buying off Ebay/Paypal.
