I spotted this in a mail order catalog I receive (from a company with which I've had satisfactory dealings in other categories of merchandise). I've no quibble with the legality of this offering - the "coins" lack the denomination legend and so aren't exact replicas, and they're still prominently marked "COPY" anyway. But certainly there's nominal inherent value here, and I hate to see the numismatically unsophisticated buy such junk. One thing that's interesting is that the seller is located in Minnesota, where by state law bullion/coin dealers are highly regulated. However, I'd think this particular item contains less than 1% silver, so it may be exempt from the statutory disclosure requirements relating to its present fair value and prospectus.

Yes, about 47 cents worth of copper and probably less than Three Cents worth of silver. And that is for all five of them not each.

At least the 1895(O?) Morgan that I saw for $150 in a Florida coin shop was genuine and made of silver, even though someone had attempted to obliterate the mintmark!
Rest in Peace

Minnesota laws are designed to insure bullion sellers are legit because of past problems. If you actually read the entire statue it does not require numismatic sales to register (other than sales tax or use tax).

It is also interesting to note that many of the sellers on ebay who claim they won't ship to Mn. (Heritage) will do so if you win coins in their private auctions. I know because I've won private sales from several of those sellers and I've had no problem getting the coins.

Please don't think for a moment that this is a disparagement toward Heritage. They are my best source for FINALLY getting some of the tough coins I've had on my want lists for decades.

Technically that is so, but in the real world there are virtually no numismatic coin dealers who don't routinely sell enough coins containing silver and gold so as to exceeed the measly $5,000 annual threshold that triggers their mandatory registration as a bullion dealer.
