Today I decided it was time to re-inventory my coins. I like to keep an electronic list of everything I own so I can bring it with me to coin shows and know what I already have. It comes in handy when deciding what project to take on next as well. Unfortunately, I tend to forget to keep it updated (or I'm just too lazy to do it lol) and usually the list goes a year or more out of date. So to be sure I end up with a complete up to date list I decided to just redo it this time. My safe was due for a good resort so everything had to come out anyway. While going through my collection so far I've found a few things I completely forgot about owning lol. I ran into the Celebrating Britain Big Ben from 2009 that I bought at the ANA show and my wife had forgot about the limited edition coin set from Canada she got from the same show. I also found a 1962 Canadian proof set that I'm not even sure where I acquired it from. Then I found an American 1960 small date proof set that I had forgotten about. Gosh, I'm still considered young by most and I forgot about three different sets. I finished inventorying my items still in mint packaging tonight. I'll move on to my items stored in boxes tomorrow for inventorying and reorganizing. This project has another benefit to it as well. I'll be able to make a for trade list as well :) Anyway, its been a fun night of going through my collection again :D

My collection is small enough to know exactly what I have. Lol. It is fun seeing things in your collection and remember its story. Good luck finding some gems.

has anyone had this happen to them ? you go to re-inventory your coins after quite a few years and find out that you did not grade the coin properly and hade to regrade it again. this probably happens when as the years go by you become more experienced in grading.

My issue is more that I have been searching for Varieties for close to 25 years and not really bothering to Attribute my finds an just sticking them in boxes and plowing on. Now I get to cherrypick my cherrypicks

Going through the ol' safe is always a fun thing to do. I have to do that soon; thanks for the reminder, EconBrony! I keep pretty good records but no one is perfect... plus it's a great reason to re-familiarize yourself with your collection (ok, ok, admire it) and take a stroll down memory lane. @jdiablo30... wow!

@ T-BOP I had a similar experience back when I first started inventorying. I found I under-graded and even missed a mint mark on a Barber quarter! I put coins in flips and graded for the first time while I was in high school so its no surprise I was making mistakes. I didnt know what I was doing quite yet. it wouldnt surprise me if I still have a couple mistakes I made in there still. @ jdiablo30 Beautiful find!

Quote: Fun times, for sure. It sure Was. but when I first started there were no such thing as numerical grades in business strikes as well as proofs. It was very easy to grade a coin. nowadays you can fry your brain trying to figure out between VF-20,25 30,35. But I understand that the hobby has to progress into bigger an better things. and in the near future they'll add half points to each grade. MS-60 1/2..MS-61 1/2..MS-62 1/2 etc. etc.so on and so on. P-01,P-01 1/2...F-02 1/2.

I don't "Inventory" my coins because quite frankly that would be an absolute Nightmare . I know roughly what I have in my collections and that is good enough for me I do however have a "tidy up" every now and then and I always seem to find coins I have bought and totally forgotten about. This is always a Fun part of collecting.

Finished the dollars and have dollars a few minutes ago. Found out I had a few UNC 1922 Peace dollars I forgot about. Must of been in one of the coin lots I've bought from people locally. Thats the only surprise for today so far, still a pleasant one :D
