Quite a few coins in my collection have been toning beautifully sitting in my safe. A few of the toned coins are Peace dollars and I don't see too many of those toned anything other than really dark colors. Very nice :) Hopefully they continue to tone out nicely.

I do not get hung up with technical grades in my inventory. Eye appeal is a major factor. I keep to AG, G, VG, F, XF/EF, AU, MS for business strikes. Oh, and a proof is just a proof.

Im the same way. I couldn't even begin to imagine how long it would take to grade everything. I usually keep the notes on my coins simple other than on my more valuable coins. Most of my coins I just list as circulated, uncirculated or proof. If a coin has some nice toning I've started including that in the list as well. Quite a few coins have toned over the years in my collection.

I should go through and see what I actually have. I am an unconventional collector to say the least. One month it's a hard push on coins and currency then it's my rc cars, then it's watches or my arcade. I just closed on my house and now I'm looking and a backhoe loader. I found a ton of coins stuck in the back of a closet while I was moving that I had no idea I had. I also run a restaurant and am constantly pulling cool things from the drawer, and my wife works at the bank and brings me stuff all the time. Also being a small town people know I will buy their old coins so they bring things to me fairly often. Just this past Saturday a guy brought me 3 indian heads, 7 or 8 Buffalo nickels, a walker, 3 franklins, 1 64 kennedy, a silver quarter, 6 or 7 Mercury dimes, a Barber dime and a beat up Peace dollar. He wanted 50 bucks. The gold and silver buyer offered him 30 bucks, I gave him the 50 and we are both happy.

Its a good idea to go through and see what you have. Its quite a bit of fun to do so and its really helpful to know what you have so you know where you want to go with your collection. Its hard to set goals or create challenges for yourself when your flying blind. Who knows, you might be surprised with what you already have :)

Finally finished the re-inventoring process. That took quite a wail but this is the best list I've put together so far. It was quite a bit of fun re-familiarizing myself with my collection and really seeing where I am on my various projects. I also inventoried my wife's toned coin collection and 2 dollar bill collection (that will make it much easier for me to buy birthday/Christmas gifts for her). I was pleasantly surprised when she said I could reorganize her 2 dollar bill collection. That made inventorying much easier.
The only coins I did not inventory this time is my foreign coin and token collection. I have yet to take the time to identify all of those yet. Probably will be a project for a future date. The next goal is to create a want list to bring my buying into focus. Then I'm going to build a list of coins I'm willing to part with for trade or sale. Sometime in the future I'll most likely post both on CCF. Gotta get to 250 posts first ;)

Here is an average month for me of what I typically get from the daily drawer and what the wife finds at the bank. On top of that I work an average of 80 hours a week and there really isn't much time to dedicate to a good inventory. I really wish I could, but for now the collection just keeps growing.

I say this is a nice "problem" to have.

Very nice finds :) Its mind blowing to me that Peace dollars and Walking halves make it into circulation from time to time (or into a bank).

During the holidays people always seem to leave "special" tips for the waitresses. These tend to be ASE, morgans, and Peace dollars. The wait staff doesn't care about what it is they just toss it in the drawer and take a dollar bill out. Then into my collection they go. After I posted that picture my wife came home from work with 8 ikes someone turned in.
