My uncle let me hand-pick two of his coins, this is one of them. Since 90% of his Ned Indie copper is cleaned (all the brown ones were scrubbed with baking soda, pity there was a 1914 2 1/2 cent there). I'm not very good with small copper coins so help would be appreciated. Also, if it's possible, can someone grade it too? Thanks!

AU55-58 Details altered surfaces.
What a shame, this is a rather nice coin but it has that Salmon color that screams acid/alkaline dipped.

Thanks trout, I can't see the cleaning on a coin that's so close to mint state so that's too bad I'll have to change that 90 to 99% then, the rest I saw with this colour is also unworn and small. It's actually more yellowish in hand than a salmon colour.

He has most of his coins stored in a box with red fluff lining it, and I can imagine that toning the copper resulting in him cleaning them. There were also some vividly rainbow toned (judging from whatever colour was left) silver that was scrubbed or brushed.

I have seen quite a few of these in brillianr red uncirculated condition.
Most of them saw very little circulation.
Quite a few of them never entered circulation.

Most of the wartime coins he has are about XF at the lowest, just enough so that I can detect the cleaning. This one is way too close to mint state for me to tell.

Is there another way to determine that a coin was cleaned aside from colour? This one looks like it has lustre too, but it may be a trick of the light from the fluorescent lamps.
