Here or at least any stories of any being found?
There has to be some, what, 3500+ at least out there. I heard about 70 are known with 5000 estimated to exist.
Who knows if anyone has them in their underwear drawers...

They have quite the premium attached to them as well for having the different tail feather design.

https://goccf.com/t/125897 Here is a case of one found in a box of cheerios and stored away all these years so I'd suspect their are more of them sitting out their somewhere that are not included in the known examples.the thread was started in 2012 but the author is still here and it was revived this year.

The Cheerios dollar is not obtainable, according to my "slush fund", so I stuck with the "Wounded Eagle".
It would an incredible find in the wild.

The Fed has an immense number of gold dollars stashed away in vaults. Most that ever entered circulation (as I suspect 90% of all Cheerios dollars have) likely ended up there.
I think there has been 1 certified example from circulation.
I hate to say it, but it is likely that 95% of the Cheerios dollars will be melted when the government eventually decides to cut their losses and reclaim the copper for other purposes.

Did they ever melt down all the Ikes? Or are those still sitting around as well?

i dont even bother looking for those things I see so many 2000 SACs it would drive me insane counting feathers. I would rather spend my eyes looking for the near rim variant of SBA just because I might actually be able to make a roll of those one year.

As far as I know, the US government has never melted any clad coinage en masse. I strongly suspect it will happen someday, since between melting and letting them circulate, melting seems to be the most plausible of the two.
To add to it further, it has been confirmed that some of the Cheerios dollars are regular circulation dies. These make up a very small minority of the known Cheerios dollars, but less than 2% of the total population is accounted for.

I have one actually and had a guy with another when we went through his collection. The one was in a shoe box. Reader's Digest was this kid was just the definition of a punk. He had a bunch of junk and thought he was so smart he was telling all these people he inherited the coin (probably true) and it was silver......it was all clad Ikes and cheap Littleton coins. Well he wanted $300. He was just hoping some novice would confuse the silver proof 1970s Ike dollars and buy them for thinking $300 was a great price. He had about $25 total, RETAIL in this box. BUT.....he had 4 Cheerios things. 3 were just the super common pennies but one had the dollar. I could not believe it. It was just too perfect. I called him a dozen times and he finally answered and gave him $300 that day. What is nice is this kid apparently was REAL slime ball. He ripped some real estate guy off on some other deal and had tried selling Chinese counterfeit Air Jordans. I kept the coin for a year and sold it. Day I sold it I texted him a link with the value on a "Cheerios Dollar". He called me 3 times in about a 10 minute period after that text. I did not answer. What is important to remember is NOT ALL "Cheerios Dollars" are the real pattern. Some are just regular 2000 $1 Sacs. Considering were are near a decade after its discovery and an astounding few of them have showed up (Less than a 100) it seems to be established a vast majority of them were spent. I mean 95% people on this forum probably had never even heard of it and even less have looked for one.

I've been looking for cheerios dollars whenever I get dollar coins from the bank to hunt. Even though I doubt I will ever find one I figure it's worth the effort. Besides, it's fun to look for it.

While looking, don't forget to look for the Wide Rim 1979 Susan B. :-)

I have found about 7 wide rims idk why they are worth much more they are not hard to find. As far as the cheerios dollar. I used to get boxes upon boxes from the bank of 1 dollar coins very fun to look through . I found quiet a few proofs and other interesting coins but no cheerios dollar. They are easy to recognize idk what he was talking about above me with counting feathers? It's the detail that's different and it's very noticeable with a glance. One day I will find one
