 by current pics, either stain or glue maybe. If glue or organic gunk an acetone soak would tell the tell. Remember no harsh scrubbing needed or recommended. Thanks, Doug.

Thanks for the information, not staining, put it under a magnifying glass. looks like small pool beneath the letters. Any idea how I can post better pictures from my scanner? Thanks all!!

There's an excellent forum under general discussion called 'coin photography' might be helpful,good luck-definitely can't tell if they are cracks from the current pics

If you only have an iphone and loupe there are some good apps to download with macro lenses that work great
