The coin might of been dipped or painted on. That's what happened to my State Quarter. The rim was silver color and the coin itself was too, I took it to my LCS and they said it was painted on :(
What a let down...

Possibly either dug up or a kid school project. Kids would plate these with mercury and such back when those science kits came with the good, cool stuff
