My biggest question is if it is authentic? Being in such low condition, my instincts told me its probably authentic. Bought from my LCS who I have never had any issues with before, just being cautious.

Well, have you tried to weight/ring it? Great ways to determine authenticy.

As for looks, I'm not sure. It's worn and dull, suggesting hard usage. Looks properly worn to me, not suspiciously worn.

I don't think it would hurt to temporarily take it out from the flip just to take some edge shots, weight and ring. Considering that if it's real, it's had a hard life and could probably take some more hits without losing any value.

Why would anyone ring test a numismatic coin? That has to be one of the worst ideas I have ever heard. You are damaging a coin when there are so many other simple ways to determine authenticity.

Ringing it doesn't have to be a hard hit to it, rather a gentle touch by something modernately soft simply to get a tone from it. There are ways to ring it rather than dropping it to the floor or a surface (drop test). I would certainly refrain from doing anything like such on higher grade pieces, naturally.

Besides, that's just one out of many ways to determine authenticy, like you said. If it doesn't sound resonable to you - that's fine. Proceed with caution.

Weight and edge checks out correctly. I think it's genuine.

Offhand, I see nothing tht sets off any alarms. Weight's pretty much where I'd expect it to be with that amount of wear. A common issue in this series. That "8" stamped into the eagle side may be a chopmark, Arabic numerals have been previously identified as such.

As to grade, I'll say VG8.
