Too beautiful not to buy, even though I overpaid somewhat, just because I'm a sucker for toning and mirrors. 1880-S over 1879 Morgan dollar.

Opinions on grade? Will post PCGS grade later. I haven't VAMmed it yet, either.

VAM-11 looks good to me :) Hot 50, at that. It's not attributed on the holder.

Looks like 63, can't tell if it is PL or DMPL, but leaning towards PL.
Rest in Peace

I've got one un-attributed in a PCGS holder as well. Not quite as nice as this one though.

PCGS has it as a 63 DMPL.

I am questioning crack out and reslab to get the VAM attribution and a shot at a 64.

As a general rule, it is a bad idea to crack out PL and DMPL in older holders as NGC and PCGS have appeared to tighten up their standards on PL and DMPL and your coin could come back in a holder with a grade that you would not be happy with. You have a very attractive coin, enjoy it in the current holder.

Leave it in the holder. Don't think you'll improve the grade with that cheek.
