I have an 1807/6 (large 1807, pointed 1) large cent in VG-8 condition. The 2016 Red Book values it at $80, the Numismedia website at $198, and the PCGS website at $315. Why such a discrepancy? Which value do you think is the closest? Edited by centsdimes 07/05/2015 1:25 pm

If it is truly a VG8 with good surface condition its value is in the neighborhood of $175-$250. If it's a VG8 with poor surface condition its value would be around $25.

Agree for the most part with above. Condition is key, and most of those coins have an issue or two. Also yours is not slabbed....I'm assuming. If your coin is problem free raw, you might get $125. If slabbed.....what he said. With problems much less. Check Heritage past sales.

It's all about the surfaces and corrosion, or lack thereof. ebay had over 100+ of these with the overdate close recently. Raw sold in the $40-$70 range in the VG area with mild pitting, while no problem Good condition usually achieved $100-$110. There was even a PCGS VF 25 no details no problems that didn't sell for $212. On high grade and high value coins Heritage auction records are the best. On lessor grade and coins typically selling under $200 ebay closed sales gives you very recent results.

I should also mention that the VF that didn't sell for $212 was a Cohen 1, not an overdate.

My prices were based on Jack Robinsons CQR and as such are guide prices. But, were talking EAC VG8 which generally isn't much different than commercial VG8. It's all about the surfaces as said above! Also as to the Cohen 1 stated above, Cohen numbers are for Half Cents.

Ugh...Thanks for the well deserved correction 1893S. I've been working with Half Cents the last two days and I have Cohen contagion.

Okay, I figured out how to attach a couple of pictures of my coin, if anyone wants to take a look at them and estimate the value of the coin. Thanks.

Boy, that's in tough shape. In the condition it's in it would be a hard sell.

Yes, unfortunately it has extensive porosity obscuring much of the detail. Otherwise details of F15 or thereabouts. All in all perhaps $50-100 but finding a buyer may be difficult as the variety itself is fairly common (R-1).

I'd guess an ebay sell price of $40-$60.
