I'm actually with Coop now, he pointed out that the line continued through the steps and out of the memorial. Looks like a die scratch now.

Just a wide screen. Sometimes know what could happen and see it when it does happen helps train the eyes.

Specimens like this one can be tough. With the coin in hand you can tell a lot more than with pics here. Your specimen reminds me of this listing: http://coppercoins.com/lincoln/dies...ie_state=eds

Checking the fields on the coin in hand, direction of markings and the like, can help paint the picture.
