Royal Canadian Mint - Ottawa, Ontario, July 7, 2015 - The Royal Canadian Mint is stirring up a storm with the launch of the new catalogue of collector coins, including 2015 $20 Fine Silver Coin - Weather Phenomenon Series: Summer Storm. It uses a new technological effect which produces a life-like flash of lightning bolts when viewed with an ultra-violet flashlight that is included with the coin. Canadian artists Tony Bianco and Arnold Nogy have captured an iconic Canadian summer landscape; that of a lone eastern white pine bent over by the winds on a rocky island on Georgian Bay being struck by two bolts of lightning.

New Releases at the Royal Canadian Mint

Another head-turning coin released is the world's first to combine colour and glow-in-the-dark paint with a borosilicate art coloured glass. The 2016 $20 Fine Silver Coin - The Universe evokes the feeling of wonder and amazement of staring up at the night sky. The coin designed by Canadian artist Loïc Beaumont-Tremblay depicts the Mont-Megantic Observatory nestled in the forest underneath a clear summer night sky. Each coin is unique because no two hand-made borosilicate glass inserts are the same.

I decided to buy the 2015 $20 Fine Silver Coin - Weather Phenomenon: Summer Storm because it's sort of quirky....though no lack of lightening where I live in Alberta. Hopefully the other 3 coins in the series will be as intriguing as well.
