I actually needed to call Citi on an unrelated matter; but since I was on the phone with them, figured might as well see if I can get this settled with both authorizations now than have to make more calls down the line if it wasn't resolved.

Quote: Yes. Same as it was for the Teddy, FDR, and Truman set medals. Thanks! Do you know if the fineness and metallic content are on the rim?

Quote: OldSkool. That's because it got crushed in the handling machine. LOL Quote: I am not sweating the pending charges. Both are still there, by the way. I am not going to bother with it until I have my set in hand. My CC company said that the final post should happen tomorrow. I've NEVER seen a double charge from the mint before and I also bought a gift certificate today and it was only a single pending charge. BTW, how long does it take to get gift certificates. I thought it would be instant.

No, GCs are not instant, takes 1 or 2 days for processing. Look for a total of four emails related to the GC order. The third email will have the special code used to redeem it.

My statistical model (based on Truman sales and grading data) shows that the expected profit value of a raw Truman set is $103. That assumes an item cost of $60, ebay gross sales price of $200 and a shipping cost of $10. So raw, you can get $103 in profit with 100% certainty. However, the expected value of a graded set is only $110 ($7 more). That assumes that if you got a PF68 it would sell for $200, a 69 for $220 and a 70 for $1200. Using the 2%, 92%, 6% actuals respectively for Truman as the odds of getting each grade, increasing the item cost for the cost of grading, and factoring shipping and ebay fees, a graded set in my Excel statistical model is only worth $7 more than a raw set. This is well within the margin of error. Long story short is using Truman C&C data, there is no advantage to grading. I will be refreshing my model with adjusted values as Ike data comes in. The one caveat is that I am not too sure how to break the coin out separately from the medal so I just ran everything combined.

Thanks for the calculations Bassmaster_3, they underscore the anecdotal evidence.

I think another key thing to consider when you are thinking about grading is how long you plan to hold the coin before you sell. If you plan for the long haul, in my opinion, grading is the best option. As time increases people start assuming ungraded sets have problems and definitely would note grade 70, maybe even 69. However, a graded set solidifies its position in the long term market. Plus, regardless if you think an ER/FS label matters, it does provide value in the long term.

Plus I just like the moderns I keep in slabs anyway. I would only sell if I got a 70.

Quote: So I just got off the phone with NGC and was told it would cost $30 per coin to get them graded?
2. Cost for getting all 12 coins (6 sets) graded would cost $360 Cost for grading the Ikes is the same as grading the Trumans...$20/coin not $30 (Modern-$15..Special Label (includes Pres AND ER) $5 more. The $30 is for "Early Bird" which is not appropriate for this coin since they have waived the minimum Quote: Submission Instructions:
The coin and medal should be submitted in capsules only. Do not send the stamp or other mint packaging.
Select the Modern tier or higher and select Special Label / Designation and check either Early Releases or First Releases. The 5-coin minimum requirement is waived.
The default label for both the dollar and medal will be NGC's Presidential label.
The default designation will be Early Releases if the dollar and medal qualify. Re: Quote: Thus. Chances are very low for a 70. That would be correct...and exactly what makes them valuable. I sent in 13 Truman dollars and got one 70 back. Another poster here sent in 5 and got THREE 70's back. I am keeping my 70...
