I would not get them graded. When you say 6 sets I assume you have 6 RP Ikes, not 12. The medal won't bring any huge premiums as a 70 IMO.

Also, you don't seem to be factoring in round-trip insured shipping plus handling charges for grading. These sets yield few 70s. You might get lucky but odds are not in your favor throwing $400+ at grading then hoping to get lucky.

That is really strange. I hope the Mint solves whatever is holding your order up and you still get your sets. Keep us posted!

@blingmybling2

Many members missed out on this set. I am still trying to place an order (been up at 4:30 AM for the last two days but no luck). So there are a couple things in mind, for future reference and also I am hoping you understand a little bit of this forum culture:
1) This is a collectors base forum and NOT many people are fond of 'flippers'. People tolerate to a certain extend, such as you flip this set to buy/collect some other coins you like.
2) Because many are still hunting for this set, it's NOT wise to have this statement in this environment "I have 6 sets of these coins so if I was looking to sell these for profit and not collect".

Back to your question:
1) You should not send in ALL your raw coins for grading, hoping to hit 70, that's a waste of money; see #2.
2) If you are able to open the set and check the coins/medals before grading, you should do so to save the submission fee; see #3.
3) YOU must at least know and able to look at the coins/medals in detail, to see/identify the one with flaws (not a 69 or 70 candidate), so not to send those in; see #4.
4) If you have done all of the above and feel confident in getting at least 1 or 2 in the 70 grade then send those + a few for 69 grade, this will give you a better chance of hitting a 70 then just sending in just 1 single coin/medal. Graders on average spend less than 1 minute looking at one coin.

Good luck and continue to hang around to learn more.

This double charge thing is really strange. Both charges still show up as pending. One should have switched to posted when they shipped. I think the mint is still in the "oh bleep, how are we going to fix this mess" stage. BTW, the mint still insists this is normal. I told them it would look much better if they just fessed up.

@SA4H, thanks for your input as well.
Just to clarify, I wrote that I had 6 sets because I thought it would be important in the calculation of expenses/profit. It wasn't meant to rub it in or to show off.

Called my credit card company (Citi) asking when the authorization would drop off. She said that they would only drop off when the Mint released the authorization. It didn't make sense, but I wanted to clear that and the $1500 authorization for the duplicate high relief eagle I canceled. Put a rep from the mint on conference call with the Citi rep who confirmed only one charge was legit (the charge was settled on the 12th) and that the $1500 authorization was for a canceled order so she had the duplicate authorization for $120 removed along with the $1500 authorization.

Moral of the story: I would check with your card company to make sure they aren't going to hold them indefinitely, and if so, maybe wait a day to see the charge process (assuming they settled all of them on the 12th) and if the duplicate is still there, either get the card rep to remove the duplicate if they can see one of the charges settled or get the mint to authorize it via a conference call.

You should probably take a look at the population reports for the truman coin.

I think they were around 5% submitted coming back a 70. That is 1 in 20 coins submitted. And one can infer that only the best coins were submitted for grading anyways.

Thus. Chances are very low for a 70.

Also looked into how long deliveries took through Smartpost, looks like last time a package was shipped out of Southhaven, MS ( Amazon Purchase) was also on a Wednesday and showed up on Saturday morning. So maybe I can luck out and history will repeat itself so I can submit one of the sets for grading on the last day of the show.

My box changed shape. At first it was something like 2x6x10 and now it's 7x7x7.

I am not sweating the pending charges. Both are still there, by the way. I am not going to bother with it until I have my set in hand.

Same here. No worries. Only one charge will stick in the long run. Be assured of that.

My sets are in route ($4.95 Basic Shipping) and scheduled for delivery on 08/18/15. As a side note: I just found out the medals on struck on 999 silver ASE planchets? Can anyone confirm that?

Yes. Same as it was for the Teddy, FDR, and Truman set medals.
